Climbing Heart, A Love Letter to the Vulnerable

Image

This is my love letter to you

a day when your heart sits quivering on your sleeve

glimpsing Polaroids past

shoeboxes cut with kitchen knives

a slit for secret admirers

see-through envelopes

taped with spit

my note tells you

a man walked on the moon in 1969

and today you will fly above the sun

your heart is safe outside again

all of the mischief caused by miscreant thoughts

blew away in the snow

Vulcan, father of the winged one

embraces your steps

your declarations

your frilly doilies covered in glitter

look at your hand

sticky with cocoa

turn it over and stare

those lines craft a past

drive them now

a holy trinity of sound

lean forward

hear me whisper

I love you

I love you

I love you
